The Chinese Imperial Shih Tzu is a small, elegant, and charming toy breed that originated in ancient China, favored by Chinese royalty and nobility for its luxurious appearance and affectionate nature. Known for its distinctive long, flowing coat and distinctive facial features, the Chinese Imperial Shih Tzu is a close relative of the standard Shih Tzu, but it is often smaller in size and has a more refined appearance.
Here's a detailed description of a Chinese Imperial Shih Tzu:
Size: Chinese Imperial Shih Tzus are typically smaller than the standard Shih Tzu, with a height of around 8 to 11 inches at the shoulder and weighing between 4 to 9 pounds
Coat: The hallmark of the Chinese Imperial Shih Tzu is its long, silky, and flowing coat. The fur is dense and luxurious, hanging straight down on either side of the body. Coat colors can vary widely and include a range of shades such as gold, silver, black, white, brown, and various combinations of these colors.
Facial Features: Chinese Imperial Shih Tzus have a distinctive pushed-in face with a short, flat muzzle. Their large, round, dark eyes exude a sweet and affectionate expression. The ears are covered with a fine layer of hair and are often set wide apart, adding to their endearing appearance.
Body: Despite their small size, Chinese Imperial Shih Tzus have a sturdy, well-proportioned body. They have a slightly longer body compared to their height, and their tail is plumed and carried over the back.
Temperament: Chinese Imperial Shih Tzus are known for their gentle, affectionate, and loving nature. They thrive on human companionship and enjoy being lap dogs. They have a playful side, and their friendly demeanor makes them great companions for families and individuals alike. While they have a lively spirit, they are generally more calm and less boisterous than some other toy breeds.
Lifespan: With proper care, Chinese Imperial Shih Tzus can have a lifespan of 12 to 16 years or even longer.
These adorable dogs make wonderful indoor pets, delighting their owners with their elegance, charm, and loyal companionship.
About Me:
With over 40 years of breeding experience, my journey began with standard Shih Tzus and shifted to a love for Chinese Imperials 15 years ago. The Shih Tzu's affectionate and loyalty manners charmed me, but it was the spunky personalities, endearing flatter faces, bigger eyes, and tiny noses of the Imperials that truly captivated my heart.
My breeding efforts prioritize health, personality, body structure, and distinct facial features. Every puppy is raised in my home, giving the attention I would provide as if they were my own. Embracing my belief in a raw dog food diet, I raise the puppies on raw alongside a holistic kibble, giving new owners the flexibility to choose their preferred feeding approach. The puppies are socialized from an early age to ensure a seamless transition into their forever homes. Typically, adoption occurs around 11-12 weeks of age, following vet checks and completion of two vaccination rounds. My commitment resonates deeply in the exceptional quality of our puppies, the strength of our breeding lines, and the nurturing environment that shapes them.
